Stylist Interview: Keeley Hawes

Keeley Hawes is a great deal of fun. She laughs frequently during our meeting – a full, hearty cackle somewhat at odds with her cut-glass tone of voice – and she jokes mischievously about everything in her life from her husband and fellow actor, Matthew Macfadyen’s, height, to motherhood and the London Mayoral elections next week. “I’m team Boris,” she tells me. “I think he’s great. It’s a fun job being the Mayor, and Boris makes it seem like that.”
Keeley's job sounds pretty fun, too. She has played a vast array of characters since she stepped into the limelight and onto our TV screens some 18 years ago, and each role seems more daring than the last. Her latest will be as the mother of the eponymous heroine, Mariah, in the upcoming adventure film, Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box, and it is sure to involve a bit of action.
“I’m not that adventurous, so I’m not sure how it’s happened,” she says, laughing. “But one of the lovely things about what I do is that you can be offered something with rooftop jumps one day and the next it’s a period drama set in the Twenties."

Alex to star in the opener of Doctor Who Series 7?

The Doctor Who team returned to shoot more scenes for the series 7 opener this week.
They have been filming behind closed doors in the studio, however, some Daleks were sighted.
A pic shows the New Paradigm Daleks alongside the Russell T Davies-era models. We knew they were coming back, but it’s good to see some visual evidence.
With Alex Kingston recently back on set, there have also been rumours that River Song might be making an appearance in the opener, as well as episode 5. Perhaps the Daleks be begging for mercy once more?
The next filming block will start shooting soon with the Chris Chibnall-penned fourth episode expected next. New companion Jenna-Louise Coleman will also shoot her very first episode in May.

Upstairs Downstairs Petition!

The BBC have officially confirmed their cancellation of Upstairs Downstairs, however it might not be too late to save it if we all stick together and show the BBC just how much support the programme has. It might not get as many viewers as Downton Abbey, but it has a fantastic cast, good viewing figures and postitive reviews. All we need now is to show that it also has strong support from its fans, then maybe the BBC might consider bringing it back!

We currently have 217 signatures on the petition to save Upstairs Downstairs: PETITION - make sure you sign it and spread the word on twitter, tumblr and facebook so that as many people as possible sign it.

Also make sure you like the 'Save Upstairs Downstairs' facebook page that has been set up in support of the show. You can sign it HERE!

The Telegraph has already noticed the support that the show is recieving from fans. If we continue showing our support, maybe the BBC will notice too :)

Save Upstairs Downstairs Petition!

Sign here guys: PETITION!

Save Upstairs Downstairs!

So it may not come to anything, but as Neil Jackson (@TheNeilJackson) stated on twitter, it's worth a shot trying to save it!

If a lot of the fans e-mail complaints to the BBC about them axing the show, they might just listen. Then show did recieve good viewing figures (an average of about 5 million) and recieved good reviews (if you want to reference any of them in your e-mail, there are some posted earlier on this blog). Perhaps the BBC just need a little persuasion from the fans - it's definatley worth a try!

You can send your messages to the BBC here: LINK!

BBC cancels Upstairs Downstairs!

Such a shame. I have just heard that the BBC will not be making any more Upstairs Downstairs. I loved the show and will miss is greatly :(”

Neil Jackson has confirmed in the above tweet that the BBC have decided against making a third series of Upstairs Downstairs. Such a shame, I really believe this show had great potential and what could be better than a show with Keelex? Hopefully they might work together again in the future, but I'm really gutted that they're won't be a third series of UD.

The Daily Mail (19/04): A Dickens of a Royal Pardon

Actress Keeley Hawes is feeling snubbed by the Queen after being left off the invitations for the royal Charles Dickens bicentenary celebrations, unlike her husband — handsome Little Dorrit star Matthew Macfadyen.
Asked who she'd most like to have a cup of tea with, Keeley — who played Lizzie Hexam in an acclaimed TV version of Our Mutual Friend — says: 'The Queen. My husband went to Buckingham Palace recently. He was invited as part of the Dickens anniversary celebrations, which I was a part of, too, so I don't know what happened to my invite!'
However, she adds diplomatically: 'I'm a huge fan of the Queen — I'll forgive her.'
Keeley, who plays Lady Agnes Holland in Upstairs Downstairs,  wanted to be a ballet dancer 'like a lot of little girls', but opted for acting early on.
'I went to stage school and did both there. Unfortunately, it soon becomes obvious if someone has rhythm or not,' she says.

Alex Kingston spotted filming Doctor Who!

As our exclusive picture shows, the Tardis has definitely landed in Llanelli!
Following a hot tip that there was a Time Rift in the Llanelli area, our intrepid reporter was sent to investigate. He didn't have to travel far, just up the road to the Box Cemetery.
There he found the battled damaged Tardis and the Doctor and companions busy trying to save the planet!
The Tardis, Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill as Rory and Alex Kingston as River Song are filming part of the new Doctor Who series in the cemetery today.
So who is the Doctor battling in this episode?
Look at the picture, but be careful not to look away, as you can just about make out the body of a Weeping Angel. Sadly, the storyline just like the Weeping Angel was being kept underwraps but we all hope the Doctor triumphs again.

River Song In New York!

The Doctor Who team arrived in New York for filming on the fifth episode of Series 7 this week. And yes, if the title wasn’t a big enough clue, River Song is expected to return for some of the action.
It’s hardly surprising news. It would have been a little strange if Amy and Rory left without some sort of farewell to their daughter in their final episode.
A casting call has gone out looking for a photo double of Alex Kingston, but Kingston herself will reportedly be on the set for scenes very soon. The double is also required to drive.
Of course River already has a bit of a history in New York, having regenerated as a little girl at the end of Day of the Moon. Just another coincidence?

Keeley Hawes: This Week I'm... (The Telegraph)

Watching
Modern Family, a genius satirical comedy about three families. I tried out one episode on a flight and I ended up watching five more in a row.
Reading
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s about a magic circus that appears overnight. It’s beautifully written.
 Eating
Peppered chicken. The very best version is at Lupa, a little Italian restaurant in New York that also does great peanut brittle. luparestaurant.com
Listening to
Women wailing! I’m really into folk at the moment – Laura Marling and Birdy – but too much in one sitting can be a bit depressing.

Drinking
Kir royales at the Delaunay. It’s a fantastic place for pre-dinner cocktails, although once I’ve had one I can never remember very much after that. thedelaunay.com
Buying
Linen towels from Manufactum, an amazing website that sources the best materials from across Europe. manufactum.co.uk
Browsing
For antiques in Sunbury Antiques Market at Kempton Park Racecourse. It’s on twice a month and has about 700 stalls of furniture, silverware, jewellery, pottery and more. sunburyantiques.com
Visiting
The Riflemaker Gallery in London’s Beak Street. I was there recently for an exhibition by my friend Stuart Pearson Wright and it’s a great space. riflemaker.org
